Renton Signal is an independent local news outlet serving Renton, Washington.

Founded by Renton resident Winter Cashman, Renton Signal covers city government, local businesses, community events, and the people shaping life here. The mission, in Winter’s own words, is simple: “I want to show people the Renton that I love.”

That means timely, accessible coverage of what’s actually happening in the city: the momentum, the growth, and the everyday stories that make Renton worth paying attention to.

About the Editor

Winter Cashman has lived in Renton for nearly a decade. Before founding Renton Signal, Winter spent more than ten years as a software engineer and holds a B.S. in Computer Science with a concentration in cybersecurity.

Alongside that career, Winter has been active in Renton civic life: founding the Renton LGBTQIA+ Community in 2019 and continuing to serve in its leadership, among the winners of the Renton River Days parade in 2023 and 2024, and serving as a certified election observer in King County for 2022 and 2023. Winter was recognized with the Rising Star Award by the Renton Regional Community Foundation in 2020.

Renton Signal grew directly out of that civic involvement. The news you’re reading is what happens when someone who has spent years showing up in Renton decides to start writing about it.
