Renton, WA – The City of Renton wants to know your thoughts on the 2026 Stormwater Management Program Plan by March 9th. Effective stormwater systems prevent flooding, keep pollutants out, and protect our natural environment, including those we reserve for recreational use.
Do you know where to recycle your batteries? The City of Renton shared yesterday three locations residents can properly dispose of their batteries for free: Renton City Hall (1055 S. Grady Way), the Renton Community Center (1715 Maple Valley Hwy), and the Don Persson Renton Senior Activity Center (211 Burnett Ave. N.). According to the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks, properly disposing of batteries helps the environment, conserves resources, and even prevents fires.
Yesterday marked the annual Japanese Internment Day of Remembrance, commemorating the signing of Executive Order 9066, which led to the incarceration of more than 120,000 Japanese Americans during World War II. The library staff at the King County Library System curated a list of books commemorating their stories. The observance serves as a reminder of the lasting consequences of policies rooted in fear and discrimination and the importance of protecting civil liberties for all communities.
Congresswoman Jayapal announced yesterday that officials at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, Washington, initially denied her request to meet with detained individuals during an oversight visit, despite her providing eight days’ notice and securing privacy release forms. Jayapal said she was eventually allowed to speak with a detainee in a public visitation area, but she described the process as difficult and the responses she received from staff as limited. She also raised concerns about conditions at the facility, including reports of long waits for attorneys to see clients, medical issues among detainees, and overcrowding, which she said underscore broader issues with transparency and congressional oversight.
Outside the U.S. Department of Homeland Security field office in Tukwila, several protesters gathered yesterday in a weekly demonstration linked to national outrage over recent shootings of anti-immigration enforcement demonstrators in Minneapolis, including the killing of Renée Good and Alex Pretti by federal agents. These events have sparked protests and vigils across the country.
